The church dedicated to Holy Archangel Michael was most probably built in the 14th century and is highly respected cult sanctuary. Also mentioned in the 15th, 16th and 17th century, when it was one of the cult and spiritual centers in the Middle Polimlje. Deserted probably in the 18th century, when the relics of Grigorije of Kumanica were taken out of it. In the old Serbian records and inscriptions stands that during the demolition of the monastery the relics of Grigorije of Kumanica were crumbled into pieces. A part of the relics was kept in the house of Antonije Simonovic in Bijelo Polje, while the other part was found in the monastery Dragovic near Drnis, with the record on a paper from 818th century, as well as two seals of the Kumanica monastery and with a signature of Nikodin, the monk. In history is also known that in the church of Kumanica a significant The Four Gospels was kept, which was gifted to the monastery in 1604 by Zaharije, the monk.
This important manuscript appeared in the early 16th century and illustrations in it are from 14th oand 16th century. Portraits of Kumanica's evangelists represent excellent works of art of 14th century. In 1970 there was a project proposed for railroad Belgrade-Bar to pass in the midst of the ruined and dilapidated walls of Kumanica. Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Kraljevo reacted and prevented railway tracks to ever desecrate and destroy one of the greatest shrines of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Kumanica is one of the few medieval monasteries
that have been respected for centuries, by members of other religions,
especially Muslims, who as Orthodox Serbs, believe in the healing power.
