Rivers


The Lim River

The Lim River starts at the foot of the mountain  Prokletije as shunt of wonderful Plav Lake at the altitude of 999m. The river's biggest gorge is between Dobrakovo and Brodarevo, The Lim flows over a distance of 174 km and passes through Plav, Andrijevica, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Prijepolje, Priboj and Rudo. It ends its course beneath Medvedja as affluent of the Drina river. The Lim river is interesting because it is a small area with a significant tourist potential. Gorges and canyons, gray limestone cliffs, waterfalls, springs and wells, caves and gentle valleys, habitat of plant and animal species alternate on its course. The Lim with plenty of water, favorable temperature ( in summer about 20oC) and variety of fish prvides good conditions for recreation, kayaking and rafting.  Since 2000, tourist offer includes rafting, and since then the river has attracted a large number of lovers of the river and its challenges. Lim valley and its tributary provide favorable conditions for fishing. The Lim's tributaries, especially Milesevka and Dubocica, are rich in brook trout. 



Petrovac beach in Velika Zupa is one of the most beautiful beaches on the Lim River. In 2009 the beach was developed for the comfortable stay of visitors and swimmers (facilities for beach volleyball, wooden eaves, showers...). Every year in the end of July and beginning of August here is traditionally held a competition in diving, from 16m high diving board.




Canyon of the River Milesevka

In addition to the enormous cultural heritage, valley of the river Milesevka represents significant natural area. In the gorge of the river Milesevka Strict Nature Reserve "Ravniste" spreads,and the river gorge  represents a regional nature park. It is a habitat of numerous rare and ancient animal and vegetal species that used to live here for million years. Pancic's spruce, conifer, tender chestnut, nut, black hazel and pine are some representatives of 317 floral species of not well-explored and researched Milesevka River Canyon. 



Here are nests of griffin vultures, tiny hawks, Ural hawks, tiny eagle, karst and grey falcons that can rarely be seen in Serbia. For its ornithological features this area has been declared in Cambridge in 2000 as an Important Bird Area by IBA project. Natural rarity and beauty of the canyon, unknown to most citizens of Serbia, is located 8 km from Prijepolje, or 2-2.5 km northeast of Mileseva monastery.
