Municipality of
Prijepolje is located in the southwestern part of Serbia. The average altitude
of the municipality of Prijepolje is 1200m, indicating that it is a mountainous
area. The area extends into two macro-geographical entities – old Vlach-Raska
highlands: Polimlje and Pester. This region is opened to the north and
northeast by the broad valley of the river Lim, while in the western and
eastern is closed by mountain ranges Jadovnik, Zlatar, Pobjenik, Kamena Gora
and Lisa. The highest point is top of the mountain Jadovnik (Katunic, 1734m)
and the lowest point is the convergence of the river Milesevka and the river
Lim (440m). Municipality of Prijepolje borders on the municipality of Priboj in
the northwest (30km), Nova Varos in the northeast (27km), Sjenica in the
southeast (30km), Pljevlja in the west (30km) and on the municipality of Bijelo
Polje in the southwest (55km).
The municipality
of Prijepolje has a favorable geographical position in terms of tourism and it
is very well connected with the affirmed natural, cultural and historical
values of cities and tourist centers of Montenegro and Serbia. Prijepolje is on
the half M21 road of Belgrade-South Adriatic. The town is situated at the
crossroads of ancient caravan roads which still exist. Railway Belgrade-Bar
passes through Prijepolje. All roads are in a good condition and are passable
through the whole year except the road Prijepolje-Sjenica.
